How to Use the manifest.json Generator

manifest.json is a required file that tells Minecraft “what name, version, and contents” an add-on (behavior pack or resource pack) has.A UUID (a unique, non-duplicate identifier) is required to identify the pack, and if you use scripts, you must also specify the exact versions of modules such as @minecraft/server. With this tool, you can automatically generate a UUID and simply select module versions from a list to create a manifest.json file in the correct format.

Procedure

  1. Enter the pack type (Behavior/Resource), name, description, and version.
  2. When using a script, select the required modules and choose whether to use the latest stable version, a beta version, or a previous version.
  3. Copy the generated JSON and place it in the root folder of the pack. manifest.json Save it under that name.

Common Pitfalls

  • Reusing UUIDs: Ensure that the UUIDs for the header and each module are different. If you copy them from another package, be sure to generate new ones.
  • Combining Behaviors and Resources: If you include the UUID and version of one package's header in the dependencies of the other package, they will be loaded as a set.
  • Module version: If the module version does not match the Minecraft version of the world or server, the script will not run and a "Cannot load" message will appear. When using the Beta API, you must also enable experimental features.

If you're installing this on a server, the process will go more smoothly if you use the Add-on Loading JSON Generator to create `world_behavior_packs.json` right after this.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you write the version number for a beta release?

In `manifest.json`, add "-beta" after the version number, like "2.13.0-beta."To use the beta API, you must enable “Beta API” in the world’s experimental settings. Since the beta version changes with every Minecraft update, you cannot specify a specific build number in the manifest. If you want to lock the build, specify it using the npm version (for TypeScript development).

When do you use "previous stable versions"?

Use this when you want to run an add-on that is still compatible with an older version of Minecraft. The "Estimated" value next to each version indicates the Minecraft version it corresponds to (this value is estimated based on npm release information and is not guaranteed to be accurate).

Is it okay to copy and reuse a UUID?

No. Each pack and module requires a unique UUID. If you use the same UUID as another add-on, they won't be able to load at the same time. This tool generates a new UUID every time you open it.

What should I specify for `min_engine_version`?

This is the minimum version of Minecraft required for this pack to work. If you aren't using any new features, please select an older version that you want to support. If you're unsure, the current stable version is fine.

Where do you get the version information from?

We retrieve information on publicly available npm packages (such as @minecraft/server) and update it every hour.
