How to Use the server.properties Editor

`server.properties` is a configuration file that determines the behavior of a Minecraft Bedrock Edition dedicated server (Bedrock Dedicated Server / BDS).The server name, game mode, difficulty, maximum players, port number, and whether to use a whitelist are all specified here. However, the entry names are in English, and the format for entering values varies by entry, making it easy to make typos when editing manually—which is a common frustration. This editor provides Japanese explanations for each entry, allowing you to configure settings simply by selecting options using toggles or drop-down menus.

Procedure

  1. If you have a copy of `server.properties` on hand, you can paste it or load the file. If not, you can start with the default settings.
  2. Select the items you want to change and edit them. Server name, game mode, maximum players, and view distance are commonly changed.
  3. Check the output on the right and export it by clicking "Copy" or "Download."
  4. Replace the `server.properties` file in the BDS folder and restart the server for the changes to take effect.

Guidelines for Frequently Used Items

  • max-players: The number of players allowed simultaneously. Set this value with sufficient margin for your network connection and memory.
  • view-distance / tick-distance: Increasing these values expands the visible range, but also increases the server load.
  • allow-list: If set to true, only users listed in allowlist.json will be allowed to enter. The permissions.json/allowlist.json editor is a convenient tool for editing these files.
  • server-port: The default is 19132 (UDP). You must open this port on your router or firewall.
  • online-mode: Whether to authenticate the Xbox account. On public servers, it is generally best to leave this set to "true."

Points to Note

If your changes aren't reflected, please check to see if the saved file is in the same folder as the BDS application itself and whether you've restarted the application. Since the number of items may vary depending on the version, it's a good idea to check the startup log for any errors after editing. You can use the operation checker to verify whether you can connect after startup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the `server.properties` file located?

It is located in the root directory of the folder where you deployed Bedrock Dedicated Server (BDS). After editing, restart the server for the changes to take effect. Some settings, such as `level-seed`, are only read when a world is created.

Are fields with the same default values not included in the output?

By default, only the items you've modified and those that were originally in the imported file will be output (to keep the output short and easy to read). If you want to output all items, check the "Output all items" box in the output section.

What happens to items that aren't in this editor?

Any items in the imported file that this editor does not recognize will be preserved as-is and written to the end of the output. They will not be deleted.

Where does the description come from?

This document is a Japanese translation of the official documentation (bedrock_server_how_to.html) included with the Bedrock Dedicated Server 1.26.60.6, with additional notes added. Since sections and specifications may vary depending on the version, please refer to the official documentation if you have any questions.
